With 500 years of guitar music, transcriptions and arrangements to draw from, there is simply too much music to list here. However, in an effort to give you an idea of the styles, here are some very general genres:
American Fingerstyle
- music of Michael Hedges, Leo Kotke, Chet Atkins, Tommy Emmanuel, etc.
Flecked with influences of the blues, jazz and American traditional music, this style of guitar playing has such a huge awareness, and quickly connects with listeners as a comfortable style that puts them at ease. Great for lively cocktail gatherings.
Classical
- music of Bach, Beethoven, Sor, etc.
Consider it fine music, more refined and perhaps dignified by it's history than other styles. A perfect accompanyment for a sit-down dinner, with quite conversation among guests. Refined,but far from stuffy. A very intimate type of entertainment.
Spanish
- music of Albeniz, Granados, Tarrega, etc.
Let's just call this a more rowdy version of "Classical". Perhaps the most identified "voice" of the guitar the world over, as exhibited through album sales and concert attendance. Includes favorites such as "Leyenda" and "Malaguena".
